Prevalence of Asthma Based on ISAAC Questionaire and Asthma Medication Pattern Among Junior High School Students at Kepulauan Seribu in 2008

Abstract

Introduction: Prevalence of asthma is still rising in developed countries including Indonesian. Asthma is one of the most important diseases in childhood, causing substansial morbidity. This study using the ISAAC (International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood) questionnaire to determine asthma prevalence in Junior High School Student especially 13-14 years old and asthma medication pattern among student in Seribu Island.
Methods: The ISAAC questionnaire were distributed to all Junior High School in Seribu Island and total subject 725 to answer the ISAAC questionnaire and additional questionnaire about asthma medication pattern. Self administrated were applied.
Result: Seven hundred and twenty fve subject age 13-14 years old were enrolled in this study. The prevalens of asthma was 6,76% and among of student were get medication when they had asthmatic attack, found that 27,27% student got their medicine from free store, 18,18% student went to olderly clinic/nurse/midlife, 15,16% student went to general practicioner and the most of student wich was 39,39% student went to public heath center. Junior High School student has already known about inhalation treatment for asthma medication routinely (controller).
Conclusion: The prevalens of asthma was 6,76% and there was signifcant relation between asthma and atopy.
