Abstract
The Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a potentially life-threatening sleep related breathing disorder characterized by repetitive episodes of
airflow cessation resulting in brief arousals and intermittent hypoxia. The prevalence appears to be increasing with trends towards higher
rates of obesity. Attention, memory, psychomotor speed, reaction time, visuospatialabilities, constructional abilities, executive functions
and language abilities are among the most impaired cognitive domains in OSA patients. The mechanism of cognitive deficits in OSA is still
unclear. Several studies suggest that sleep fragmentation, daytime sleepiness and nocturnal hypoxemia may induce an impaired cognitive
function in OSA patients. (J Respir Indo. 2015; 35: 247-59)
