Abstract
Background: Lung age is resulted from FEV1 value equation of non smoker health individual to the real crhonological age. we need a specific formula and FEV1 Value. The aim of the study to compare smoker lung age and without smoker, and to find association of lung age with FEV1.
Methods: A Cross sectional study from January – February period analyzed 195 Army personnel samples of Korem 032 Wirabaraja Padang Army, We noted age, height, Weight, exercise, smoking status, degree of smoking and pulmonary function (FEV1). Lung age were calculated using prediction equations lung age formula from Korea 2014. The differences of lung age with chronological age are evaluated with Kolmogorov Smirnov test and related to smoking status, and the degree of smoking. Data was analyzed with Chi-square test, Kruskal, Anova test corelation.
Result: Total subjects 195, divided into two groups, 138 (70.76%) smoker soldiers and 57 (29.23%) are non smokers, we found significant difference lung age of smokers is higher than non smokers (48,20±15,57 vs 30,64 ± 11,08), there is the association of the degree of smoking and lung age is significant (P< 0,001).
Conclusion: Lung age of smokers are higher than the non smokers. There is significant differences between lung age in mild smoker group, moderate, and severe. We found a strong relationship between the age lung age and decrease of FEV1, more older the chronological age and value of FEV1 become lower. (J Respir Indo. 2016; 36: 216-21)
