Abstract
Background: Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is a mean cause of mortality and morbidity infection diseases in the world. It ranked first in Indonesia of mortality and morbodity since two decades. The objective of this study is to assess the association between microbiological indoor air quality.
Methods: This study based on case control study and ARI in underfive children. The information was collected by measurement of
microbiological indoor air quality, interview, and observation in region of Puskesmas Leuwisadeng, Bogor regency were done in 2013.
Result: The result indicated a significant association was found between acute respiratory infection in under five children to total colony bacteria and total colony microbe (p=0.025; OR=7.798), incomplete immunization (p=0.037; OR=3.845), and using biomass for cooking (p=0.038; OR=4.312). Healthy house (p=1), smoking by any family member (p=0.526), humidity (p=0.088), crowding (p=0.380), total colony fungi (p=0.255), component of house (p=0.066), and sanitation facility (p=0.602) insignificant with acute respiratory infection.
Conclusion: There was significant association between total colony bacteria, total colony microbe, incomplete immunization, and using biomass for cooking with ARI in region of Puskesmas Leuwisadeng. The main risk factors that causes under five years ARI was total colony bacteria and total colony microbe. (J Respir Indo. 2015; 35: 83-96)
