Design: Randomized control trial
Method: We conducted a randomized controlled trials of outcome assessment and follow up at 6 and 12 weeks. Fifty three patients with mild to moderate COPD (age 65±6 year; FEV1 70±5) were recruited. Twenty six patients randomized to pulmonary rehabilitation received 12 weeks of cycling stationary for 2.5 minute as 3 times a weeks and chest physiotherapy. Twenty seven patients to the controls group received only standard care.
Result: We found significant differences after 6 weeks rehabilitation in 6 minute walking test distance (p=0.001) and symptom, activity, impact and total measured by SGRQ (p=0.000). In the second follow up at 12 weeks of rehabilitation found still increase 6 minute walking distance (p=0.000) and improve of SGRQ score (p=0.000).
Conclusion: A 6 week of pulmonary rehabilitation increase of 6 minute walking distance and improve quality of life. The benefit was still evidence after 12 weeks but not as well as 6 weeks rehabilitation.
