Association Between Vitamin D level with Asthma Control Level

Abstract
Background: Vitamin D has a role as an immunomodulator in asthma. Low vitamin D levels are associated with poor asthma control, reduced lung function, resistence steroid and e acerbation. Little is known about vitamin D in adult asthma patients. The aim of this study was to investigate association between vitamin D level with asthma control level.
Methods: Cross sectional study of 60 subject with asthma were enrolled from pulmonary slinic dr M Djamil Padang and Medical Center Lung Disease (BP4) Lubuk Alung Pariaman between November 2014 to February 2015. Vitamin D levels measured by ELISA and level of asthma control using ACT.
Results: Out of the 60 patients with asthma, 23 subjects found suffer deficiency of vitamin D. Vitamin D levels were significantly associated with asthma control level (p = 0.001).
Conclusions: Levels of vitamin D were significantly associated with asthma control level. (J Respir Indo. 2016; 36: 83-7)
