Abstract
Background: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease, so the appropriate treatment is necessary in order to achieve and maintain asthma control for an extended period. Asthma control can be measured objectively by spirometry and subjectively using the ACT (Asthma Control Test) as a comparison.
Methods: A cross-sectional study at the Clinical Respiratory Harum Melati, Pringsewu, Lampung, on January to December 2013. There are 345 patients were diagnosed during this periode. To assess the correlation between ACT values with FEV1% done with the Pearson product moment and to assess the correlation between ACT and categories FEV1% done with Kendall ‘s tau test c.
Results: Pearson Correlation (r) indicates the value of 0,751 with a significant level of p=0,0001 in order to get a positive correlation of ACT values and FEV1%. Kendall ‘s Correlation (τ) indicates the value of 0.556 with a significant level of p=0,0001 so the positive correlation obtained from the category of ACT and FEV1%. The results of cross-tabulation with uncontrolled ACT between ACT and FEV1%, there were 35 patients with mild obstruction and 31 patients with no obstruction, but ACT results only partially controlled.
Conclusion: There is a strong positive correlation between the value of the ACT with FEV1% in determining asthma control. The ACT and FEV1% is divided into the categories it was concluded that there is a weak correlation between ACT and FEV1%. (J Respir Indo. 2014; 34:95-101)
